This design is a balance between privacy and transparency at the front door of a well-known Auckland architect's home. The garden setting is tropical. The oversized door is a striking blue lacquer. The interior showcases colourful and varied collections of art and craft.

For a solution, I avoided patterns, colours and designs that would compete with the existing collections. Large papaya leaves feature quietly and naturally in my design, to interact from the inside with the exotic garden setting outside the front door and from outside, to give selected screening to the interior.

Because the glazing in these tall windows was pre-existing, the design was acheived with a silvery translucent film, which was applied to the interior and exterior to give an overlapping effect of the leaf shapes.
